Grading At Cold Iron Comics
At Cold Iron Comics we realize that accurate grading is key to customer satisfaction and we take great pains to ensure that all raw books we sell have been through our strict grading process. We have two different methods for grading, depending on the age and value of the book in question:
General Grading
For most Modern Age books, specifically lower priced, relatively common, non-key issues, we grade books in general terms - Near Mint, Fine etc. without assigning a numerical value. As much as we'd like to be able to assign each book a numerical grade, it becomes difficult when you have several thousand books in stock. Each book generally graded will fall within the numerical range for that grade as assigned by Overstreet:
Mint - 9.9 to 10.0
Near Mint - 9.2 to 9.8
Very Fine - 7.5 to 9.0
Fine - 5.5 to 7.0
Very Good - 3.5 to 5.0
Good - 1.8 to 3.0
Fair - 1.0 to 1.5
Poor - 0.5
If you are interested in a book we've generally graded and would like to know the specific grade, please let us know and we'd be happy to send you a detailed grade.
Numerical Grading
For all books Bronze Age or older, as well as for certain key Modern Age books, we perform numerical grading to Overstreet standards as defined in the Overstreet Comic Book Grading Guide, Third Edition. Numerically graded books are graded on 21 different points, the results of which are listed in the book's description along with its grade. This way you not only get to see the grade, but the reasons why that grade was assigned allowing you to make an informed decision before you purchase the book.
OverStreet standards include 25 different grades. We've provided the criteria for each grade in the table below.
